Las Palmeras 3 Group's story

Maria is 28 years old. During her childhood her parents traded coffee, this let her begin to study. She only could study to the second grade, because her parents could not support her and her siblings’ studies any more.

She married at the age of 15, her adolescence was as a housewife. She has four children. Her husband has a small grocery store that gains income to sustain their family.

A neighbor told her about credits for women that Chajulense Association of Women United for Life give.

This year she will get her third credit. She will invest it to expand her vegetable store buying tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, potatoes, güisquil, cabbage, and other vegetables.

María is the leader of Las Palmeras 3, the group is made up of five women, all from the Ixil Maya ethnicity. The group will use their loan for textiles (60%) and agriculture (40%). On average, each member of the group has four children, and the average age of the members of the group is 36 years old. 40% are illiterate, and 40% did not end their primary education, and 20% ended their secondary education.
