Clearpath Coffee's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped buy equipment to support over 260 Colombian coffee farmers living in post-conflict regions and increase their income by 80%.

Clearpath Coffee's story

Problem: The Huila region in Colombia produces some of the best quality coffee in the world. 95% of coffee producers in the region are smallholder farmers, who use artisanal processes to create specialty coffee. Huila has been heavily impacted by decades of armed conflict due to guerrillas and drug traffickers; sustainable farming has been a proven way of supporting local populations to recover. However, these vulnerable farmers often don’t receive adequate pay for their hard work, as they lack the resources, infrastructure and access to information they need to do so. Solution: Clearpath Coffee facilitates direct trade relationships between smallholder farmers and roasters by providing necessary resources and international logistics support, all while making farmers majority partners in the export process. The company also provides post-harvest infrastructure to improve the quality of the product. In 2018, Clearpath worked with 62 farmers, increasing their income by 40%. Expanding the company’s infrastructure would allow Clearpath to go even further. Impact: This loan will allow Clearpath to build a centralized drying plant accessible to 260+ vulnerable farmers in Huila. This resource will increase farmer income up to 80% by allowing them to sell directly to specialty coffee roasters as well as increase overall quality and price of the coffee. Indirect impacts include increased employment at community levels, and the intangible impact on farmers’ dignity and sense of belonging.
