Lucy's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped a single mom to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizers, to enable her to grow more tea crops.

Lucy's story

Wonderful Kiva lenders, meet Lucy, a 41-year-old single mom of one child and a practical and resourceful woman; she is pictured in her tea farm. She has no higher education or work experience, only her wits and her desire to succeed in life. She is a very hard-working, progressive, and honest farmer from a remote village in the Kerugoya area of Kenya. This area is very fertile with favorable weather patterns that support farming activities such as tea.

Lucy has a farm where she grows crops and raises different livestock. She also earns some income from a personal business. The Kerugoya area is a favorable one for farming, so Lucy is seeking a 50,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner, Juhudi Kilimo. She will use it to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizers, to enable her to grow more tea crops, reap maximum profits, and increase her business.

Being a woman makes accessing funds in Kenya, especially around her area, very challenging. Lucy feels relieved knowing that there are institutions such as Kiva and wonderful lenders that help hard-working women like her. She is always working to improve her family’s living conditions, but her biggest dreams are to become independent and support her parents and children by herself.

Lucy is thankful to lenders in advance.
