A loan helped to add mobile money floats.

Solome's story

Solome is 22 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has one child. For the past two years, Solome has been working hard to manage her mobile transactions business, which offers services like sending and withdrawing of money.

To help expand her business, Solome has requested a loan of 1,400,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to add mobile money floats, and will help Solome to generate greater profits. Solome will use the profits of her business to assist her husband in paying school fees for their child, buy for herself and her child personal items like shoes, pay house bills and provide basic needs for her family like food and medical care. Thereby improving on their standards of living.

Solome hopes that in the future she will be able to set up a clothing store for women and childrens' clothes in order to generate more income. She also hopes to buy a plot of land and build permanent houses for rent and to live in.

Solome is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
