A loan helped to pay for the maintenance of her plot of cocoa, with the objective of offering a better quality product to her customers.

Banco Solidario Chontaccocha Group's story

Karina, 30 years old, has three children, ages 14, 12, and 6. For over 14 years, she has worked harvesting and selling cocoa. In addition, she works on other land so that she can save up and purchase land at some point.

Her greatest challenge has been increasing more cocoa plants and diversified products. She asks for her loan through Kiva to invest in the maintenance of her cocoa: weeding, preventing pests, and purchasing soil amendments to improve the cocoa product.

Karina's spouse works in transport and they both want to get ahead to improve their quality of life, particularly that of their children. Currently, her challenge is to continue having her farmland well-cultivated so in the future she can live off of the yield.

Karina considers herself to be an enterprising, determined woman in her work and each day she has new challenges to take on. She belongs to the Banco Solidario Chontaccocha group, made up of 10 members and led by her.
