Las Flores Salcaja Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to pay for a variety of high-quality thread in different colors for her traditional textile business.

Las Flores Salcaja Group's story

The secretary of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Flores de Salcaja” is 27-year-old Celia, who is a married mother of three children who range in age from 3 to 7.

She has a seventh grade education and for four years has worked at her weaving business so that she can help raise the living standard of the family and cover the educational expenses of her older children.

She employs four other people who work at each of the four looms in her workshop. They weave beautiful traditional wrap around skirts or “cortes” that often have intricate designs.

She is currently requesting her fourth Kiva loan and will invest the capital to buy a variety of high quality thread in different colors.

There are 10 Maya K’iche women in the Trust Bank who live high in the mountains in the department/state of Quetzaltenango. They proudly wear their colorful traditional outfits daily. Their businesses range from raising poultry to weaving traditional textiles and sewing ornate aprons. They meet monthly to make loan payments and then participate in educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services. In these trainings, they acquire basic business tools, learn about health, hygiene and nutrition and how to raise their self esteem and empower themselves.

Celia and her friends are opening doors to a brighter and more successful future. Kiva investors who partner with Friendship Bridge are key players in their lives. Thank you!
