Milana Monserrate's story

Tosagua is a productive canton. They produce cacao, coffee, bananas and corn, among other crops, and they raise poultry and pigs. Its gastronomy is very well known in the region. The main dish is fried or roasted chame [Ecuadorean fish].

Milana Monserrate is 41 years old. She is in a common-law marriage. She has three children, ages 17, 15 and 13. They are all in secondary school. Milana Monserrate’s spouse is an electrical master craftsman. They live in their own house. Milana is a teacher in a public school. She works mornings, Monday through Friday. She also has a small store at her mother-in-law’s house where she sells spare parts for several brands and models of air conditioners and washing machines. Her main buyer is her spouse who performs repairs for individuals who request his services. He has his own van which he uses to transport equipment to be repaired.
