Linda's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped publish my colorful illustrations on educational children's books that share a message of hope.

Linda's story

I was born in Cartagena, Colombia, a beautiful Caribbean city rich in culture and history. I grew up watching with curiosity my grandmother, Carmen, sewing clothing, promoting the art of crochet and knitting. My grandma was born in a poor family but her hard-working spirit and intelligence helped her become a successful entrepreneur in her hometown. My mom, Mariela, is my friend and partner. She is also an example of faith and overcomer of life's obstacles. She is a civil engineer who came to the USA as an immigrant, not speaking English very well, with four teenage children, and now holds a manager position at a recognized multi-national company. She recently started a non-profit organization in Cartagena to educate underprivileged children. Lindy & Friends is now a reality thanks to women like my mom. When I was a senior in High School, I always imagined myself succeeding, but as you may know, big dreams come wrapped with many layers of challenges. Almost before graduation time, my parents gave a spin to our lives by deciding to move to the United States—the wonderful place I now call home— to strive for better opportunities. All the hard work, focus, perseverance, and legacy of the women in my family has encouraged in numerous ways. I have seen my dreams come to fruition; I earned a Bachelor of Design from the University of Florida, a top school of Architecture in the USA, and also studied Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. I’m now a passionate entrepreneur who loves creating, innovating and always enjoys learning new skills. My dreams for the future are to expand my brand, become a retail company and impact as many children as possible through quality educational products. I believe it’s better to give than to receive!
