Sofi's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase more groundnuts.

Sofi's story

Sofi is 18 years old and lives in the town of Iganga in the Iganga region of Uganda. For the past 3 years, Sofi has been working hard to manage her food produce business, which sells ground groundnuts.

To help expand her business, Sofi has requested a loan of 1,300,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more groundnuts, and will help Sofi to generate greater profits. Sofi will use the profits of the business to buy for herself personal items like clothes and shoes, pay household bills, and provide basic needs for her family, like medical care and food, and thereby improve their standard of living. Sofi hopes that in the future, she will be able to buy a permanent house. She also hopes to buy a grinding machine.

Sofi is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
