5 De Agosto Group's story
The 5 D. Agosto communal bank is in its first loan cycle; it’s a new bank. Most of its members are merchants. They sell: food items, beauty products, school supplies, prepared meals. Some have a stand and stores. ANGELA is the group president. She’s married and has small children, some of whom are in school. She has a small, neighborhood grocery store and plans to use the funds to buy an ice chest so that she can diversify her inventory and increase her earnings. RAFAEL is the Group secretary. He has a numerous family and works from 8am until 8pm in order to support them. His main activity is cooking and he also delivers food items in the Achachicala neighborhood. He will use the funds to buy various products like: cooking oil, flour, rice, sugar, pasta in quantity, so that he can fill more orders and product higher income for himself and his family. CARMEN is the Group treasurer. She has two children and has a stand in a school in La Paz. She will use the funds to buy various products to stock her stand now that the new school year is about to start. She hopes to save up to buy a second stand so that she can increase her income. All of the members are responsible and hard-working people who, in many cases, are the sole support for their households. They are very grateful to Emprender and to Kiva for the trust placed in them when granting the loan. NOTE: There are 11 people in the Photo because one of the people brought someone along.
