Uma's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase a hand-loom to expand her weaving business.

Uma's story

Uma is a 26-year-old married woman from a small village in Nadia district, West Bengal. She has a family of 3 members and a monthly household income of INR 8,900. She and her husband are engaged in a weaving business. They purchase threads and weave sarees, towels, and other types of cotton fabric for clothing. They weave using a rented handloom and sell the fabric in the local market.

The weaving is the main source of income for the family. But the income is barely enough to cover the family's needs and their daughter's educational expenses. She plans to purchase a new handloom to make more profit and increase income by cutting the rent that they pay to the handloom owner. Hence, she has applied for a loan of INR 35,000 from Grameen Shakti, one of Milaap's field partners.

She and her family thank the lenders for their support.
