A loan helped an experienced plumber to purchase a sewer inspection camera and add a new service to his business.

Brandon's story

I've studied and worked in a number of different fields, but knew I found my true calling when I took Plumbing 101: The History of Plumbing at my local community college. I was fascinated by how long our society has been trying to solve the problem of cleaning drinking water - from Roman aqueducts to cholera outbreaks in Pittsburgh to modern water sanitation systems. This class made me switch from studying HVAC to plumbing and I've been in the field ever since. I appreciate that my family has supported me as I've changed careers, gone back to school, and started my own business. My wife stayed up late nights with me as I was studying for my licensing test. For the four years of my apprenticeship, I was also taking classes two nights a week, which meant I couldn't spend as much time with my family as we would like, but they understood my dream and we did our best. Now that I have my own business, one of the things I like best is that I can better support my family and have time to attend my son's squash games and my daughter's concerts. I also want to thank my mom for never letting me quit anything. I know that value helped me stick with school, the apprenticeship, and all the work it took to start my own business.
