La Segua Group's story

In the sector of La Segua, in the canton of Chone, is a wetland that is just like a paradise. It stands out because its inhabitants are farmers, business people, and livestock raisers.

This loan group is made up of 15 members (14 women and one man). They meet every 15 days. With these loans, they are improving the quality of life for their families.

Esther is 46 years of age and is in a common-law relationship. She has four children, of whom three are of age and independent and one is 11 years old and studies in school. Her partner buys and sells pigs. They live in the house of a daughter.

With the hard economic times and with the need to help her family, which lives with limited economic resources, Esther started a kiosk some years ago, where she prepares lunches with varied menus. She also prepares foods cooked with onions in the mornings, and in the afternoons she sells empanadas, tortillas, almond breads, and other items. Her partner helps her with the sales.

With this new loan, she will buy ingredients for making food to sell, chairs, tables, etc. Her dream is to have her own shop premises and her own house.
