Elizabeth's story

Elizabeth is 22 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Makindye region of Uganda. Elizabeth has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food.

To help expand her business, Elizabeth has requested a loan of 1,500,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more fresh food like maize flour, green bananas, beans, and other items. It will help Elizabeth to generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living by providing them with enough food. Elizabeth hopes that in the future she will be able to open another restaurant in her village to create more jobs for the youth.

Elizabeth is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
