Pa'tamu Group's story

With the main purpose of raising the villagers' awareness of the importance of contributing to the care of the environment, Josefina, originally from Patamban, Michoacán, Mexico, promotes small actions that allow them to get fresh air and to preserve their mountains.

Josefina is a young woman at 43 years old. She appreciates that nowadays, women are taken into account by society and can contribute to their community through hard work. Thus, in addition to carrying out her work in the home and in crafts as traditionally done with pottery, these days she reforests the land. Her strength, energy, and dedication have motivated other people to join the initiative of rescuing mountains that have been abandoned.

Currently, as a leader, woman, and promoter, she is proud of being an example for family and friends who recognize that thanks to her work the lands that are inherited from generation to generation have been rescued.

Although the challenges that face Josefina, her family, and the villagers are many, they are motivated by the knowledge that there is the possibility that Kiva will support them to continue working to conserve their mountains and to develop their community. With this, they will be able to obtain a better climate and financial resources that will allow their development without having to go out and look for other income opportunities outside the state or even the country.
