Carolyn's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy a biodigester to cook with biogas and help the environment.

Carolyn's story

Carolyn was bothered by the rate at which her kitchen was getting black from cooking smoke. “If the wall can get this dark in a few months, how much darker are my lungs from a lifetime of inhaling firewood smoke?” Carolyn pointed out.

Just like her neighbors, her family had to spend a lot of time fetching the limited amount of firewood they could find on their farm. Use of this firewood would later be dangerous for families, especially for women and children who spend long hours in the kitchen cooking for their families.

As a wife and a mother, she decided to confront the problem by purchasing a Sistema Biobolsa biodigester. With her biodigester, Carolyn will transform her cows' manure into energy.

She wants to enjoy a healthy cooking experience and she also wants to begin a journey of building generations of sustainable communities in Sotik. She wants her children never to have to cook on a smoky fire again.

This loan represents 63% of the full price of the biodigester; the remaining part was covered by a cash down payment and a government subsidy.
