Christine's story

Get to know Christine (a 26-year-old single mom with two school-going children).

After failing to secure a job, Christine had no idea how she was going to survive, but she overcame her predicament and started practicing mixed farming. Right now, Christine is a happy woman. She lives in the Maua area of Kenya. To afford a decent and comfortable life for her family, she has been selling milk and a variety of food crops from her farmland. Her primary sources of income are milk and crops from her small farm.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Kiva field partner Juhudi Kilimo ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in input availability.

Christine is requesting this loan to buy farming inputs, such as high-quality seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizer. Thanks to this loan, Christine is going to increase her crop production, which will translate into increased income.

Christine thanks the lenders for their goodwill and support.
