A loan helped to purchase for more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour.

Nina's story

Nina's group is comprised of hard working women. Nina is 21 years old and lives in the town of Kibuli in the Makindye region of Uganda. She has one child. For the past 1 year, Nina has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells essential items like sugar, salt, cooking oil and water.

To help expand her business, Nina has requested a loan of 2,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase for more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour for sale, and will help Nina to generate greater profits and pay back the loan in time and buy for her kid's basic needs.

Nina hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land build rentals and also own a supermarket..

Nina is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
