Nancy's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy farm inputs to improve her horticulture farming, and as a woman who is unwilling to let her children suffer, to turn her life around.

Nancy's story

Nancy,47 years old, is a mother who has children and three go to school. She is a resourceful and determined crop and dairy smallholder farmer, who is not daunted by the difficult situations she has been through. Pictured in her simple house, she resides in the Kerugoya area of Kenya, which is known for having good rainfall patterns which favour farming, specifically horticulture crop farming.

Through experience based on curiosity and her natural abilities, Nancy has emerged as one of the most respected farmers in her village. Nancy is a competent farmer who has been rearing dairy animals and growing different varieties of crops such as horticulture. One objective that Juhudi Kilimo aims at fulfilling is increasing the ease of accessing farm inputs and income-generating assets for farmers. Through the intervention of Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva, fertilizers, pesticides and other important farm inputs have become more accessible to its members.

Nancy has taken this loan so that she can use it to buy quality farming inputs, such as certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers, which she plans to use on her horticulture farm. With these inputs, Nancy will be assured of a good harvest, which will consequently reflect in her pocket. This loan will be a “turning point” for this hardworking mother, and will make her life better in 2019.
