Wanjiru's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as certified seeds and rich-nutrient fertilizers to expand her horticulture farm and make more income to support her children.

Wanjiru's story

Hard work spotlights the character of Wanjiru. Amidst women of her age, she has been identified as a very hardworking farmer, engaging in mixed farming, dairy, and poultry-keeping. She is a rural smallholder farmer who was not lucky enough to be admitted in any higher-learning institution to learn agriculture. However, through gathered experience based on curiosity and her natural abilities, she runs a successful farm in the Kerugoya region of Kenya.

In the modern world, agriculture has become exceedingly dynamic, meaning the kinds of inputs that are being used in the sector today have been upgraded. On this note, there is a need to use improved farming inputs for effective production. As a knowledgeable agricultural producer, Wanjiru has decided to apply for a loan that she will use to buy farming inputs.

This loan will surely change her life, as she will be able to produce more and hence shift her income level. Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement on input availability than before. The impact of this loan will be smiles on the faces of her children.
