Magdalene's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a bio-digester to cook with bio-gas, farm with bio-fertilizer and help the environment.

Magdalene's story

Magdalene is a farmer in Uasingishu and has cows. She lives with her family, and the money earned from the farm is the main source of income to support them.

Magdalene is currently spending too much money on the propane required to power her home for cooking and hot water. Her 40-cubic-meter Sistema Biobolsa bio-digester will allow her to use the abundant cow manure on-site to produce bio-gas to replace propane. The bio-digester will transform the "waste" into two important resources: methane-rich, renewable bio-gas and potent bio-fertilizer.

Magdalene will use the bio-gas to cook and heat bathwater for her family, and she will use the bio-fertilizer to increase yields on her crops. With this bio-fertilizer, she will no longer have to resort to expensive, petroleum-based agrochemical fertilizers.

This loan represents 81% of the total cost of the bio-digester; the remaining part is covered by a government subsidy.
