Confines Del Sur Group's story
The members of the "Confines del Sur" communal bank are from Angol, which is two hours south of Temuco, in the Araucanía region. Temuco is 670 kilometers south of Santiago, Chile's capital, and it has several lakeside resorts and very showy flora and fauna. It's worth noting that this area is home to 50% of Mapuche, an indigenous people of Chile. Most of the members sell new and used clothing. Some sell groceries and vegetables in the markets, some tend to sales stalls, bookstores, barbershops. Noemí is the president of the communal bank. In the photo, she is the only blonde in the first row. She sells underwear and young adult clothing door-to-door; she also makes souvenirs for events like graduations, baptisms and weddings. Noemí will use the funds to buy clothing to sell. Her 7-year-old daughter, who is the motivating force in her life, lives with her. Her dream is to have an established store in her home so that she can reach a better quality of life. For Noemí, Fondo Esperanza has meant an opportunity and the tools to surge ahead.
