Amie T's Female Farmer Group's story

Amie T (who is the first person on the right side of the photo) is the featured borrower of Amie T's Female Farmer Group. She would like to sincerely thank all of the Kiva lenders for funding her group’s previous loans. The loans enabled them to break free from the local lenders who were charging them nearly 100% interest. As a result, all of the group members have fully recovered their businesses. The group has also expanded their farming operations and created a support fund to help its members pay their children's school fees and stationery costs.

Sierra Leone is currently experiencing a difficult time economically due to the higher price of fuel and imported rice. This has led to food shortages in some areas. The group would like to take advantage of this situation and increase their production as the price of rice continues to rise. Increasing production will greatly enhance the livelihoods of the members and also improve food access in Sierra Leone at a time when it is badly needed.

The group members are requesting their third loan in order to expand production, grow their businesses, and increase local food security.
