Jackline's Group's story

Jackline's group is comprised of 2 hard working women. Jackline is 16 years old and lives in the town of Kisasi in the Kireka region of Uganda. She has 2 children with 1 of them currently in school. For the past 1 year, Jackline has been working hard to manage her product business, which sells vegetables, tomatoes, onions.

To help expand her business, Jackline has requested a share of 1,700,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy tomatoes, onions, and will help Jackline to generate greater profits.

As the business expands, Jackline will be able to pay her different bills, and also meet the basic necessities for her family such as paying school fees for her children thereby improving on their standards of living.

Jackline hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land.

Jackline is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
