Mireya Lourdes's story

Mireya L., 38, lives on the outskirts of the Ecuadorean city of Guayaquil. Her house is made of cement but she only has a rudimentary electric service. Her husband teaches accounting and they have 4 children, 18-, 16-, 12- and 6-years old.

Before Mireya started her business, she studied the market in her neighborhood and realized that a business supplying products such as notebooks, pens and paper was profitable.

Mireya now works every day from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., selling around 3 packs of notebooks; 20 boxes of pencils, pens, paper, markers, etc per month. One of the difficulties she facies is government energy rationing.

Mireya will use the loan to buy notebooks, paper, pencils and other supplies that will help her to grow her business. In the future, she hopes to expand the business and open additional stores.
