Mujeres De Progreso Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more chickens, as well as building materials like blocks, cement and iron to build an additional hen house.

Mujeres De Progreso Group's story

The Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres de Progreso”, formed by 11 women who want to be successful entrepreneurs and good mothers, are very happy to participate in the Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. The ladies live in a rural area in the department/state of Chimaltenango and are Spanish speaking. They have convenience stores and small poultry farms, and they sell delicious regional snacks and clothing. These women are requesting their third Kiva loan.

The treasurer of the group is 44-year-old Silvia, who is married with four children over the age of 16. She has a small farm where she has built three large hen houses. Business has increased in the past years, allowing Silvia to send her children through elementary school. She is currently requesting a Kiva loan to buy more chickens, as well as building materials like blocks, cement and iron to build an additional hen house.

Silvia has no formal education, but she is learning about how to manage her business effectively, care for her family and empower herself at her monthly meetings. A facilitator from Friendship Bridge shares useful information about health, hygiene, nutrition and the use of medicinal plants. She and her friends also learn about women’s rights/roles and self esteem.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for your kindness in funding these much appreciated loans!
