Kimya Plus Group's story
Erméline N. is the leader of a community bank (borrower's group) named "Kimya Plus" which means "Silence" in English. It is composed of 33 members united in solidarity for receiving loans with the goal of developing their businesses. 62 years old, Erméline is a widow and the mother of ten children, whose ages vary between 22 and 43 years old. Only one of her children attends college. Erméline has been part of the micro-enterprise world since 1971. She runs a general store to the Southwest of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She has acquired solid experience in this area and works hard with good management skills in order to realize her dream of one day opening a larges store. She would also like to achieve financial independence through her business that now earns her $480 per month. She works to the best of her abilities and uses her contacts so that she might achieve her goals. Erméline is a trustworthy client of HOPE RDC, a Kiva partner microfinance institution, and has thirteen times obtained and correctly repaid loans. With this loan, Erméline plans to increase her stock of merchandise by buying cans of food, sacks of rice and sugar and milk and reselling them at a profit.
