Los Lirios De Amistad Group's story

Karla, 21, is a member of the Communal Bank "Los Lirios De Amistad". This group of seven women have the desire to learn new tools to exercise leadership, have successful businesses and develop their families. This will be possible by receiving monthly training on finance, medicinal plants, entrepreneurship and preventive health. This is through the "Microcredit Plus" and "Health for Life" program at Puente De Amistad.

Karla and the other women live in one of the rural areas of Chimaltenango. Although the area is known to be ethnic Kaqchiquel, they do not wear the typical dress and they speak Spanish. The women have small restaurants, bakeries, corn tortilla stores, bookstores and clothing stores. They want to invest their first Kiva loan to increase the capital of each of their businesses.

Karla studied for nine years and this education helps her to better manage her business. Eighteen months ago, Karla started with two businesses; the sale of clothes and a small restaurant where they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. This income helps improve her economic situation and thus provide a better quality of life to her 2-year-old son. She is requesting her loan through Kiva to invest in her two businesses. Karla will buy vegetables, chicken, oil and sugar for her restaurant, as well as new clothing designs to offer her customers variety and a fair price.

Thank you Kiva lenders for extending a helping hand to these women who want a better future.
