Scovia's story

Scovia is 21 years old and lives in the town of Pallisa in the Iganga region of Uganda. For the past four years, Scovia has been working hard to manage her retail business, selling cassava, millet flour, salt, rice and soap.

To help expand her business, Scovia has requested a loan of 800,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy millet flour, soap, sugar, and salt, and will help Scovia to generate greater profits.

Her business will expand ,hence more profits. She will be able to cater for basic needs at home, thereby improving their standard of living. Scovia hopes that in the future, she will be able to buy a motorcycle.

Scovia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to micro finance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
