Sylivia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to purchase more onions.
Sylivia is 23 years old and lives in the town of Rubirizi in the Kabwohe region of Uganda. For the past 4 years, Sylivia has been working hard to manage her food stall, which sells onions and tomatoes. To help expand her business, Sylivia has requested a loan of 700,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more onions, and will help Sylivia to generate greater profits. Sylivia will use the profits of the business to buy for herself personal items like shoes, clothes and sanitary towels, pay house bills and provide basic needs for her family like food thereby improving on their standards of living. Sylivia hopes that in the future she will be able to open up a bigger grocery shop in order to generate more income. Sylivia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
