Hawa's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to purchase more rice, cassava, vegetables, fish, maggie, palm oil, onions, chicken, meat, pepper, groundnut, tomato, and seasoning.

Hawa's story

Meet 42 years old Hawa from Portloko branch. She is married with 5 children. Two of them are currently attending school.

Hawa runs a food market, where she sells “cookery” on the side of a busy road. “Cookery” is a modest term for the wealth of spicy stews that are cooked by local people and served with rice. The building blocks of such stews are palm oil, cassava leaf, rice, green chilli peppers, seasoning (like maggi or red pepper) and chicken or fish.

She has been in this business for the past 10 years now and works 12 hours per day and 6 days a week. Her main challenge is slow sales sometimes.

Hawa requested this loan from Brac to purchase more rice, cassava, vegetables, fish, maggie, palm oil, onions, chicken, meat, pepper, groundnut, tomato, and seasonings to increase her business. She says that the extra income from this loan will help to take care of her family.
In the next 5 years she wants to expand to a big restaurant.
She says thanks and appreciation to the Brac and Kiva community for their support.
