Daniel's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped us buy and build equipment for our new facility, which will help us expand production exponentially and create business opportunities for other farmers through facility/equipment rental.

Daniel's story

I was raised as the oldest son in a family of 16 children. Our Mennonite culture encourages making a living with our hands and with our families at our sides. We children grew up raising produce, cooking sorghum, repairing machinery and cars, welding and carpentry, and every side job imaginable in a small farming community. But it was milking the family cow at age 7, with me on one side and my younger brother on the other, that I found my passion! By the time I was 9, I was milking at the neighbor's commercial dairy on weekends. Milking cows was my first love and at 24, I had my own dairy. But 20 years later, the landscape for small farmers has changed. Milk prices have tanked and dairies everywhere are suffering. Drowning in feed debts, my dairy folded. And though I got a job to pay down the feed bill, I kept every single one of my cows. Six years later, I came back to the farm with the dream of bringing a milk value-added product straight to the people. Maid-N-Meadows' artisanal cheese was born with the hope of making small dairies, like mine, viable again. By creating an exceptional product, using sustainable practices, I believe we have accomplished just that. Ultimately, my goals are to connect the greater community to what wholesome food tastes like, and create viable business opportunities for other small dairies. My motto is, "What is good for the land, is good for the animals, which is good for us!"
