Eli's story

I grew up on a half-mile wide strip of sand called the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I know exactly what it is like to scrounge to survive the harsh and desolate winters living on an island that revolves around tourism. I watched my own parents grow something from nothing, and build their realities brick by brick. They opened a small resort on my island with intentions of helping everyones' lives improve. Observing my parents drive to provide for our family as well as an entire community instilled a desire to start a business based on making a positive impact. Today, my wife owns her own wedding photography business and she gives me the utmost inspiration, love, and support to follow the path of my dreams and impactful goals. Together we look at "doing our own thing" as an opportunity to use our gifts to provide others with more than we could if we worked regular jobs. I will tell you how I began this journey with Bright Spot Coffee. My wife and I had just moved to Richmond, VA and I was working a few jobs to supplement her "slow-season" for weddings. All this time, my dream for Bright Spot was growing daily and I could vividly "see" how things would look. We talked about it, prayed about it, and eventually, I decided to take the leap to pursue this dream full-time in early 2018. I knew that a dream this big deserved more than just "my off hours". This business requires my heart, my soul and my hands to be in it, sharing stories, making connections and building brick-by-brick; just as my parents did. The result of this leap of faith has been the greatest journey of my life, and I feel it’s just begun.
