San Miguel Siguila Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy construction tools like hammers, as well as tools for working with cement.

San Miguel Siguila Group's story

In the department of Quetzaltenango, many people have small businesses selling products from the United States. They understand the products are of a high quality and will be sold for a good price. Flora, a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank ¨San Miguel Sigula¨ is one of them. Together with her husband, she has a business selling construction materials.

The couple decided to open this business several years ago because his income from driving public transport could not sustain their family. The enterprise has grown.

Now Flora wants it to expand even more. She is requesting a Kiva loan to buy construction tools like hammers, as well as tools for working with cement.

Flora and her friends in the group envision a higher standard of living for themselves and their families. They are taking steps toward this goal by requesting their first Kiva loan that they will invest in their traditional textile and animal husbandry businesses (pigs, goats, sheep, cattle).

Since the women have little or no formal education (43-year-old Flora has a sixth grade education), they benefit from their monthly educational trainings that provide them with basic business tools such as planning, budgeting, investing and savings. They also learn about three other topics: health, family matters, and women's issues.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for partnering with Friendship Bridge, to give capital, education and hope to Flora and the ladies in the group! You are a bright light in their lives!
