Alex's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to establish perennial vegetable and floral crops for the long-term viability and diversity of our farm.
We are first generation farmers. Mark grew up in Ann Arbor, MI where we farm now, and I grew up in suburban Connecticut. We met in college and from the beginning were drawn to outdoor activities: hiking, camping, biking, gardening and, later, farming. We spent several years working on small and mid-size family run farms until at one point we realized that we wanted a farm and business for ourselves and our future family. Thanks to a supportive local community in Ann Arbor of growers, consumers and educators, we were able to dive in head first to creating the business we envisioned. We now have two small children, ages 3 and 6. What started as a personal project for us has become a family purpose. Our kids are fortunate to live in a place where they have direct connection to the land that grows their food. They eat whole vegetables, picked right off the plants in the field, with gusto. As we enter our 9th year as a business, we are looking ahead to the next 10, and 20 years from now. As our business and we as farmers mature, we aim to make the most sustainable choices for our farm, from crop selection to tillage practices, infrastructure investments to balancing workloads.
