Maria's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a spinning machine.

Maria's story

María is 29 years old, married, and has three children in school. She has her own home in the city of El Alto, Bolivia.

María has been making vicuña blankets for four years. She has a demanding work schedule from 8 in the morning until 9 in the evening from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays she sells her product in the local markets.

It is artisanal work, made by hand, easily recognized in the community for quality and value because of the great effort in the making of the blanket. Within the Bolivian culture there are many traditions in which they perform folk dances, among which stand out the dance of the morenada where women dress in traditional polleras and use vicuña blankets to represent elegance and formality. This is why María’s production is in high demand from the fraternities that dance at local parties.

This is the first time that María has requested a loan. She has requested it through Fundación Sartawi for the purpose of buying a spinning machine with which she will be able to increase her production and save time.

María has a vision of generating more income to be able to offer a better quality of life to her family and to provide a quality education to her three young children.
