A loan helped to help a single mom purchase high-quality fertilizer that she will use to improve her crop production. This will enable her to make profits and elevate the quality of her life.

Lucy's story

Lucy, a single mom pictured in her simple house, is a crop farmer in a remote village in Thika in the central area of Kenya. To her, farming is not only a talent but also the most profitable business that she knows. This enterprising farmer began farming a few years ago. She is proud that her farm has been consistent in producing crops, which has sustained her family.

Access to modern and quality seeds and fertilizers is the pillar of agricultural changes. However, in Kenya, a developing country, the allocation of fertilizers and seeds by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured in the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in the availability of inputs.

Lucy is seeking this loan so that she can use it to purchase high-quality seed and good fertilizer that she will use to improve her crop production. This will enable her to make more profits and elevate the quality of her life.

Lucy has a great desire to succeed and also a desire that Kiva lenders will listen to her request and help her better her life. She has thanked her lenders for their generous support.

Kindly and humbly light up a spirit as we gear to celebrate the upcoming International Women’s Day season!
