Divine's story

Hello, lenders! Meet Divine, an entrepreneur who hails from a remote village in the Kakamega region of Kenya. She is hardworking and very enterprising. Her dreams of having a white-collar job did not come true, but she is content with the farming lifestyle.

In Kenya, agriculture is one of the most competitive industries, especially because of the high costs of land acquisition and farming inputs, and these costs have skyrocketed. To meet these costs, farmers have been forced to borrow from financial institutions that sometimes impose very complicated procedures in loan distribution. Some farmers, and especially women, end up in hopelessness and despondency and lack the morale to invest in agriculture.

Divine has requested a 20,000 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo that she will use to buy inputs such as fertilizer and hybrid seed to improve her crop production. Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around her village, is very challenging, but Divine feels relieved knowing that Kiva lenders like to finance hardworking women like her. Her dream to provide her family with good living conditions will finally come true!
