Cristo Redentor 2 Group's story

Mercedes lives in a sugar cane producing community in the province of San Pedro de Macorís. The people in these communities live in extreme poverty and mostly consists of Haitian immigrants. San Pedro de Macorís is known for having the largest number of sugar mills in the country.

Mercedes is a mother of five children and was not able to finish her studies. The lack of job opportunities for people with little schooling means that women like Mercedes have to start different types of businesses to help sustain their families. Mercedes has managed a snack bar for 11 years where she sells salami, fried snacks, chorizo, fried meats, bread, juices, and other products. This business provides income that helps her family. Even though snack bars are common businesses in the sugar cane producing communities, Mercedes has managed to build a good clientele. She dreams of someday having her own house, seeing her business prosper, and providing her children better opportunities to develop in life.

Mercedes needs the assistance of the lenders to buy supplies such as meat, oil, salt, water, bread, provisions, and sausages so that she can continue to generate income and help her family. Thank you for contributing to the “Cristo Redentor 2” Group.
