Lydia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy cereals high in demand, such as cow peas, lentils, rice and maize, to sell and help a single mom to secure the lives of her school-going children.

Lydia's story

Meet Lydia, a young farmer with an infectious smile. She is from a remote village in Eldoret, Kenya. She has defied the common thinking among most Kenyans that agriculture is only for the older generation. Lydia is a single mother who is blessed with lovely children. Her primary source of income is milk, and she plants different varieties of food crops. She also engages in a personal business and has been able to earn a handsome profit from the venture.

Lydia practices agriculture with a difference, employing youthful energy, hard work and knowledge from the many agricultural training seminars she has had with Juhudi Kilimo. Lydia is seeking a loan to buy cereals so that she can increase her profits and satisfy the existing demand.

Accessing funds has been a challenge for Lydia, but she now feels relieved because Juhudi Kilimo is partnering with Kiva lenders to help hardworking women farmers like her turn their farming dreams into reality through training and loan financing. Lydia believes that this loan will benefit her greatly and that she will be able to satisfy the demand for cereals. She also believes that the extra income she earns will enable a change in her life and increase her business. Increased profits will allow Lydia to repay this loan and provide a secure future for her school-going children.
