Mujeres Emprendedoras De Rio Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy toys, light bulbs and personal care products wholesale.

Mujeres Emprendedoras De Rio Group's story

Sebastiana is a 48 year old married member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres Emprendedoras de Rio” who lives in a rural area in the department/state of Quiche. She has a teaching certificate and with her income from her other businesses, was able to send each of her children to the university!

She has a small mobile business selling toys, light bulbs and personal care products in different local markets. Sebastiana wants to expand the business and so she is requesting a KIVA loan to buy toys, light bulbs and personal care products wholesale.

There are 7 ladies in the Trust Bank who mainly speak Maya “Sacapulteco”. With the income from their small businesses, they help their husbands take care of household expenses as well as educational ones for their children.

This is their 3rd KIVA loan and they will invest the funds into their convenience stores, food carts (Mexican tacos), and the sales of personal care products. They meet monthly with a Facilitator from Friendship Bridge. After making prompt payments on their loans, they eagerly participate in educational training that give them useful information about their businesses (budgeting, planning, investing, savings), their families (health, hygiene, nutrition, the use of medicinal plants) and themselves (self esteem, empowerment, women’s rights). The combination of loans, education and healthcare services is what Friendship Bridge calls “Microcredit Plus”.

Thank you, KIVA lenders!
