Cory's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support
A loan helped our family farm rebuild our High Tunnel that we lost in a recent snow storm, and continue to grow fresh, local produce for our community.
I, Cory, and my wife, Jenny, met while I was finishing my service in the US Marine Corps and she had just returned from missions work in Thailand. Around this time, I learned the value of eating fresh, local and organic food. Jenny was dedicated to wellness through nutrition and cooking amazing food. However, we couldn’t afford to buy all their groceries from the farmer’s market or health food stores, so we figured that starting a garden would be the most economic way to have access to fresh, organic produce. Soon, the items on our grocery list transformed to food that could be produced on a subsistence scale. We both enjoyed the challenge of growing our own food and the satisfaction of harvesting and eating food that we worked so hard to produce. Working to feed my family and having studied Sustainable Development with a concentration in Agroecology and Sustainable Agriculture, I felt it was my purpose in life to produce food that was good for people and not exploitative of the environment. Further, I wanted a job that allowed me to work from home and spend as much time with family as possible. A key attribute that I believe all successful entrepreneurs posses is grit, and the will to never quit. Anyone who has known us for any extended period of time knows what my family and I have endured. From battling Leukemia with our oldest daughter, to having to move from our original farm due to unfortunate circumstances, and then to losing our home to a house fire in the span of just one year, I have always strived to be a bold leader, and never surrender in the pursuit of our vision, in spite of how dire the circumstances were for my family and I.
