Chotola Group's story
Chotola" is the name that 10 women have given to their Communal Bank. The women are native to the Department / State of Quiché and speak the K'iche 'language. They are sure that based on effort, savings and access to small loans, they can go far in business and in families. They request a 3rd Kiva loan to invest in the embroidery and weaving of traditional clothing, sale of animals, sale of tortillas, prepared food. Juana is the president of the group and is 56 years old. Juana attended school 2 years. She is married and has 8 children in ages (8 to 35). With great effort she has supported for her children to finish elementary school. She has the embroidery business of "belts" also called typical belts. Joan's business has thrived in recent years. This business has allowed him to generate sufficient income to provide better living conditions for the family. She wants the business to continue growing and for that she wants to obtain a loan to invest in the purchase of a high quality yarn variety and thus continue to produce an innovative and quality product. With the benefits of credit, women will also innovate their businesses, make better decisions, take care of their health and live with dignity. These results will be achieved in the "Microcredit Plus" program of Puente de Amistad that integrates loans, training and medical attention.
