Jariatu's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase more palm oil to increase her business.

Jariatu's story

Meet 34-year-old Jariatu from Waterloo. She is married with three children.

Jariatu runs a palm oil business. Palm oil is red in color and is the cornerstone of Sierra Leonean cuisine. It is used as the base for spicy stews. Good quality oil is said to be high in antioxidants. The oil is usually sold in yellow plastic jugs. Borrowers like Jariatu save money when they buy their oil in bulk. She has been in this business for the past five years now and works 10 hours per day, 6 days a week. She says her business is successful without any challenges. Her other source of income is from her husband.

Jariatu requested this loan from BRAC to purchase more gallons of palm oil to increase her business. She says that the extra income from this loan will help to take care of her family and to educate her children. In the next five years she wants to expand internationally. She says thanks and gives appreciation to BRAC and the Kiva community for their support.
