Olivia's story

Olivia is 19 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. For the past two years, Olivia has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food from green bananas, rice, meat, chicken, posho, peas, yams, and cassava.

To help expand her business, Olivia has requested a loan of 400,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy saucepans, plates and cutlery, and will help Olivia to generate greater profits. Olivia will be able realise more profits and therefore, she will be able to cater for her family's needs; hence, improving on their standard of living.

Olivia hopes that in the future she will be able to build a farm house.

Olivia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
