Juliet's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy saucepans, plates and cutlery.

Juliet's story

Juliet is 17 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Makindye region of Uganda. For the past two years, Juliet has been working hard to manage her restaurant, in which she sells cooked food, green bananas, rice, meat, chicken, posho, peas, yams and cassava.

To help expand her business, Juliet has requested a loan of 1,200,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy saucepans, plates and cutlery, and will help Juliet to generate greater profits. Her business will expand; therefore, Juliet will be able to meet the basic needs at home and cater for different home bills, thereby improving her standard of living. Juliet hopes that in the future, she will be able to expand to a bigger restaurant.

Juliet is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
