Masitula's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a hair dryer, braids, shampoo, weaves, and hair oil.

Masitula's story

Masitula is 24 years old and lives in the town of Kisekende in the Kisekende region of Uganda. For the past four years, Masitula has been working hard to manage her Beauty Salon, in which she which plaits hair, braids, and weaves.

To help expand her business, Masitula has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy a hair dryer, braids, shampoo, weaves, and hair oil, and will help Masitula to generate greater profits. Masitula will be able to realize more profits from the expanded business and also afford more basic needs for her family, hence improving her standard of living. Masitula hopes that in the future, she will be able to buy a plot of land.

Masitula is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
