Maoko Maranda Group's story

Merenia is a member of the Maoko Maranda Group, which is comprised of three members. She is a 52-year-old entrepreneur in the tuck shop business, residing in Nyatsime and operating at the local shopping centre, which is one of the busiest areas in Nyatsime. She restocks her products once a week from Harare. She is a widow and a caring mother of 11 children. She has three that are still school-going and dependent on her. Merenia has stood in the gap and made sure that her children are properly fed, dressed, and educated. With the proceeds from her business, she has built a house for herself and her children.

Merenia is currently in the group with Mariah and Fatima who run butchery businesses. With the motive of expanding her business, Merenia encouraged her fellow group members to apply for a further loan. Maoko Maranda Group received their second combined loan of $1950. Merenia used her share to purchase groceries for resale targeting this coming festive season as well as to cushion herself against price increases in the market.
