Usman's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to meet pressing needs including purchasing cement, blocks, and nails to upgrade his mud house and build a better shelter for his family.

Usman's story

As a maize farmer living in rural northern Nigeria, Usman is very happy to see his livelihood improving. During planting season earlier this year, he benefited from quality inputs and training on best practices that helped to increase his yield by up to double the national average.

To maximize profit, he needs to store his maize and sell it after harvest, when maize prices are higher. With this Harvest Advance loan, Usman will receive the cash equivalent to the value of his maize at harvest, while Babban Gona stores the maize to sell at a higher price in the future, after the market glut.

Usman plans to use his Harvest Advance loan to meet pressing needs including purchasing cement, blocks, and nails to upgrade his mud house and build a better shelter for his family. Access to affordable credit is helping him to transform his low margin smallholder farming occupation into a lucrative one that helps him to save part of his increased earnings and invest in his family’s future.
