Tukur's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase farm equipment that will increase productivity and generate higher profits.

Tukur's story

Tukur is a maize farmer from the rural northern Nigerian state of Kaduna.

As a Babban Gona member, Tukur is able to increase the productivity of his maize farm to reap up to 35 bags/hectare of maize, which is double the national Nigerian average of 18 bags/hectare.

As part of his harvest services package from Babban Gona and through this loan, known as a harvest advance loan, Tukur will get crucial harvest support including renting a threshing machine, transportation services, and storage infrastructure that will reduce post-harvest losses to less than 0.1%.

As a Babban Gona Trust Group farmer cooperative member, Tukur will also benefit from improved technical knowledge, increased productivity and access to markets. With Babban Gona’s support, Tukur will sell his harvested maize for up to 40% higher than the market price.

With his enhanced savings, Tukur is pursuing future opportunities by diversifying his income sources and plans to open an agriculture dealer business.

Tukur’s hard work is helping to modernize agricultural value chains in northern Nigeria and contribute to the economic development of the region.
